Lubricants for The Railroad Industry

CICO® railway lubricants are designed for the entire chain of rail operations – from the wheel–rail interface through switches and track infrastructure components to the lubrication and assembly of rolling stock parts. Our specialized lubricants for railway infrastructure and rolling stock support both track maintenance and the service and overhaul of rail vehicles.

In the wheel–rail contact area, lubricants such as CICO® TL 22 B, CICO® TL 1500 B and CICO® TL 1600 B are used. They are formulated for the lubrication of wheel flanges and gear rims, reducing friction, wear and the risk of cracking. The advanced low-adhesion lubricant CICO® RS 20 B, intended mainly for lubrication systems mounted on rail vehicles, stabilizes friction conditions in the wheel–rail interface, lubricates wheel flanges and the rail head at the same time, and reduces noise and curve squeal.

CICO® SM 1200 MB conditions and lubricates the rail head in the contact zone with the wheel flange, helping to eliminate curve squeal and reduce wear. It is used primarily in stationary rail lubrication systems. For switches and crossings, the lubricant CICO® WSM 3000 T ensures smooth operation of switch mechanisms and reliable movement of switch blades even under severe weather conditions.

Liquid and plastic CICO® lubricants are biodegradable, which helps reduce environmental impact and supports sustainable infrastructure maintenance. CICO® products in aerosol form are likewise formulated to minimize their environmental footprint while delivering high lubrication performance. The use of our lubricants results in increased operational safety, lower noise levels, reduced component wear costs and higher availability of rolling stock and track assets.

Lubrication of buffers, couplings and brake components

In addition to typical “track-related” products, CICO® also offers specialized lubricants for rolling stock components. CICO® BF 45 B is a modern, biodegradable lubricant for vehicle components, used among others on buffer plates, screw couplings, draw hook guides, handbrake spindles and various transmission and brake mechanism parts in rail vehicles.

The service and assembly paste CICO® SM 1200 B is suitable for lubricating joints in brake rigging and for the assembly of bolted connections, providing protection against seizure and corrosion and facilitating disassembly after long service periods. The synthetic lubricating and preserving agent CICO® TGM 2000 K is used for brake components, screws, pins and other metal parts exposed to high loads and aggressive environmental conditions.
